On Potion Protocol, Potion Unlock and PotionLabs

Basic questions

Q: What is Potion?

Potion is a play on the word “option” and refers to the fact that Potion Labs (Ripalia 5000 SL or thereafter RIPALIA”), a research and software development company, has developed a protocol that would allow its users to create, trade and price options on crypto assets. However, Potion Labs has not been, is not and will not be the deployer, maintainer or operator of any instances of the protocol it has developed at any time in the past, present or future. Therefore, all statements about Potion Protocol are purely hypothetical, since none of those capabilities mentioned are actually realized or available for end users anywhere. Instead, Potion Labs has decided to fully open source the Potion Protocol and will leave it up to independent third parties inside or outside its community to harvest the capabilities of Potion Protocol in a legally compliant manner.

Q: What is the business model of PotionLabs?

Potion Labs is a web3-native R&D powerhouse, conducting research in financial markets, crypto assets, risk pricing and other advanced financial-mathematical modeling. The business model of Potion Labs is strikingly simple: Potion Labs open sources its research whenever it feels that it has reached a breakthrough that warrants sharing with a broader community of researchers, academics and practitioners. While the open sourcing is happening in a fully non-commercial manner, Potion Labs accompanies each open source release with an NFT sale. Any NFTs sold are non-fungible, unique digital collectibles that serve no other purpose or function and are therefore not considered financial instruments of any kind.

Due to the highly regulated nature of financial markets and the fact that Potion Labs is not a financial services provider, Potion Labs is not in any form concerned with whether or how its research finds applicability in the real world of financial markets. Potion Labs is a pure software development company that stays clear from any actions that may put it directly or indirectly in a position where it may be considered an operator of financial services or market infrastructure or any other regulated profession that requires licensure by competent authorities.

Potion Labs plans to be part of its emerging community and the broader Web3 space in the long run and will continue to experiment with novel public good funding methods, as long as those methods allow Potion Labs to operate as a pure R&D company that does not require any licenses by competent financial authorities or otherwise.
